WHAT IS THE MIDER CUP?
The Mider Cup is an annual MFA team event between the four MFA
zones. The event started in 1994 by Chuck Kennedy when the MFA had
four zones that all fanned out from the Twin Cities - NE, NW, SE,
and SW. The current zone boundaries were made in 2000. The current
four zones are: East Metro, West Metro, North, and South.
The Mider Cup moved to a Match Play (18 team members/8
divisions) in 2007 with the help James (JDL) Ludlow's leadership as
the MFA Mider Cup Chairperson. JDL attended the December, 2006 MFA
Executive Board meeting with the proposal to format the Mider Cup
to, 1) make it more of a team event by making sure all team members
were equal in their potential contribution to the team, and 2) make
the scoring system simple and transparent to all players. The
previous scoring system was extremely complex and took Mider Cup
TDs a long time to tabulate the results after the competition
ended.
Brad Junnila was also instrumental with the design of the Mider
Cup format and has played a intregal role in all Mider Cups since
2007. Brad is the current Mider Cup Chairperson.
WHAT ARE THE ZONE BOUNDARIES? Roughly, the East Metro and
West Metro consists of the seven county metro area are divided by
35W. North and South are in greater Minnesota and are divided by
Hwy 7.
